The expected action is for the fsockopen (line 80) to connect, and not return false. It's been has been fine for the last few months and then today it started happening again. This problem cropped up on system that was essentially running several months untouched. In my Fedora Core 13 system, I went so far as to take the firewall completely down and I still get the "Could not open socket". When people sign up, they get an error: "Could Not Open Socket", which is originating from a PHP fsockopen() function within a library file (line 80) for: http://www.google.com/recaptcha I submitted a Recovered back the original php file. It should fail gracefully, and allow the form submission to continue without verifying the captcha input.
Ive tried a couple of fixes from above and the problem is still there. This is to be edited in the captcha lib php file recaptchalib.php.
